چکیده

Giant cell arteritis is a large- and medium-vessel vasculitis that has been described as a systemic disease process with disseminated vessel involvement. Advances in vascular imaging techniques have demonstrated that involvement of the large vessels of the upper and lower limbs may be more prevalent than was once thought, although the clinical implications of this are unknown. Isolated lower extremity claudication without systemic or classic cranial symptoms, especially as a primary manifestation of giant cell arteritis, is rare. We present the case of a patient with isolated bilateral limb claudication that rapidly progressed to critical limb ischemia requiring urgent surgical intervention after steroid therapy. Our patient has consented to the publication of this report.

Improving the level of amputation of the lower extremity after therapeutic endovascular intervention for patients with critical limb ischemia

Methods: We conducted a comparative study of two groups of patients suffering from arterial insufficiency of the lower extremities, and the decision taken to amputate above the knee for both of them. A group of patients selected for a therapeutic peripheral intervention, and the effect of this intervention in improving the level of amputation studied and calculated statistically. The study cond...

Fucoidan Stimulates Monocyte bMigration via ERK/p38 Signaling Pathways and MMP9 Secretion

Critical limb ischemia (CLI) induces the secretion of paracrine signals, leading to monocyte recruitment and thereby contributing to the initiation of angiogenesis and tissue healing. We have previously demonstrated that fucoidan, an antithrombotic polysaccharide, promotes the formation of new blood vessels in a mouse model of hindlimb ischemia. We examined the effect of fucoidan on the capacit...

The CLI Knowledge Gaps

Critical Limb Ischemia as a Public Health Crisis Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is one of the most common cardiovascular diseases and is associated with high short-term morbidity and mortality. It is the primary cause of lower extremity amputation throughout the world and is a powerful marker of advanced systemic atherosclerosis. Chronic critical limb ischemia (CLI) represents the most advance...

An Overlook at the Patients with Acute Lower Limb Ischemia Undergone Femoral Embolectomy

Objectives: Acute lower extremity ischemia is a rapidly progressive condition that could stem from embolism or thrombus, leading to sudden interruption of blood flow which might cause loss of limb or even mortality. In this study, the registries of the patients having acute lower limb ischemia who has previously undergone femoral embolectomy in our center were assessed, retrospectively. Additio...
